Kel and party walk across the Gates.
"Amazing you say they control the river from here." Kel asks.
"Yes at-least the river as it leaves the lake." Chaco replies. "This place was attacked and taken several times during the war. Thankfully they weren't burned out or sacrificed."
"Wow, who got sacrificed? That wasn't in any of the stories you told me." Chia says.
"Never mind I'll tell you when your older." Chaco says. "So Kel are you excited about seeing the castle that was our countries HQ?"
"Very much so. The new fire-bringer castle wasn't very impressive because of money problems. I understand they are getting it tip top shape now though. The only wonderful castle I've ever seen is Brass castle. I miss it now that I'm here." Kel replies. "So is it a trading center like our Lake castle became?"
"Yes it has lots of shops and it is where my 'brother' decided to stay after he got ill. CHia would be with him but he didn't want her to see him get weaker." Chaco says.
"But that will change soon won't it Uncle Chaco?" asks Chia.
"Yes it will." Chaco says. "So have you thought about what Kel said to you?"
"Yes and I am sorry for getting so mad. I just wanted to look brave." Chia says.
"Being brave means facing your fears not boasting about having none." Kel says. "I'm glad you see the wisdom in my words. I had a hard time learning that lesson. I think it was years after my parents died that I finally realized what an idiot I had been."
"How did your parents die?" Chia asks. "My mom died giving birth to me."
"Chia that is not a subject to ask someone you barely know." Chaco scolds.
"Its fine. Chia I am sorry about your mother." Kel sighs. "Well my parents were knights. They loved Zexen and I always was ashamed that I couldn't share that love of our country. They were killed in a battle against the Grassland tribes. I was told my father died against Duck clan fighters and my mother from Karayan arrows. I was about your age when they died. From that day on I vowed to fight till the Grasslands were conquered. Then the destroyers came and I was fighting along side the Grasslanders. I learned that my vow was foolish and I broke it. I instead vowed to finish the war and find where I belong."
"That must have been hard." Chia says.
"It was. I am stronger for it though." Kel replies. "I learned that the Zexen council were fools and that I didn't love or belong in that land. Let's get going I fill that I said too much."
Kel walks away.
"He still feels bad about abandoning the land of his birth." Chaco says.
"I think it is his parents that he hurts for." Chia says. "Atleast he knew them though."
"Your mother was a lovely woman." CHaco says. "Let's catch up before he gets lost."
Chaco and Chia rush to catch Kel.
